Intentionality and your career

There's an important distinction between productivity and intentionality. Productivity is task-based: you have a list of concrete things you're trying to finish. Intentionality is more abstract. An intention is internal, and works as a direction to steer by rather than a task you tick off.

I didn't start down a path of intentionality with an eye to getting more things done and being more productive but there's no denying that it has certainly helped me in this respect.

When you choose to be intentional with your life it's hard not to pay more attention to how you are spending your time. The more aware you are of your actions the more likely you are to spend your time the way you want to, rather than, say, accidentally losing yourself on social media for an hour when you actually wanted to work out.

The author and YouTuber Ali Abdaal has a great video series on productivity in which he specifically calls out being intentional with his time as one of the reasons he's been able to get to where he is now. His playlist is here.
